I have history of shoulder injury but wanted to continue to do strength training for maintaining a healthy life style. I engaged Ryan as I was looking for a personal trainer to assist me with the proper use of the smith machine that I recently acquire. Being a newbie to gym equipment usage, he started me off by introducing me to the various exercises that can be done on the machine. This was valuable as I was able to practice on them during off training session. After a training plan was established for me, he continues to spot my flaws and kept providing reminders on proper form to execute and to focus on areas that the exercises targeted. This has been very helpful as it allows me to witness a progressive increase in load and yet not aggravating my existing injury. I also witness an improved physique progressively. Ryan is very observant and has also prove to be a very competent therapist. On days that he noticed I have awkward shoulder or back movement when executing the exercises, he would check on me and provide therapy massage when necessary. I must say that the bonus therapy session is super effective in relieving soreness and stiffness. Training under Ryan has been very pleasant given his jovial personality. Furthermore, he puts more than the stipulated time per session (for most sessions) to complete the exercise plan. Thus overall it felt more like working out with a friend than a training that had to end on the dot. I have thoroughly enjoyed the training session under Ryan. Things that I have gained from the training sessions with Ryan thus far are:
1) Several usage of the smith gym equipment and the areas that they targeted
2) Proper form / posture for the exercises
3) What it meant to feel pumped
4) What it meant to work till fatigue
5) How to gauge between what weight to use and when to increase weight progressively
6) How to execute drop set, partial and perform isolation
7) How to incorporate HIIT in between sets
8) Techniques for posture correction - and stretching after exercise to avoid having knots
9) Expert advise and correction from an experienced trainer who is living as a physique competitor.
