How many times have you thought that doing crunches and sit-ups will get you to lose specifically your belly fats? Or maybe doing push ups and shoulder presses will get rid of those butterfly wings you have because you are training those muscles in the desired area?
Burning fats in a specific area, otherwise known as Spot Reduction, is unfortunately not possible.
Advertisers commonly exploit this concept for marketing of fitness related products resulting in a widespread believe of this myth. Instead, fat is lost from the entire body as a result of dieting and regular exercising to achieve caloric deficit.

Think of it this way,
Your body is like a car.
To move the car, it requires fuel from the fuel tank.
The fuel tank is where all your body’s fuel source consolidates, all your fats, carbs and proteins.
Your entire body act as a fuel tank, not just a specific area.
During driving, your car uses the fuel from the fuel tank as its energy source.
Likewise, during activities, your body will draw its fuel from your entire body, not just one specific area.
This includes whatever small, low intensity activities that you do such as breathing, chewing, crunches, push ups etc.

Re-frame Your Mind-set
Thus, instead of thinking that doing crunches and sit-ups will help you to lose specifically your belly fats, the concept should be reframed to - doing crunches and sit-ups increases daily calories output which will aid in reducing overall body fat percentage.
Likewise for any other exercises that you once thought can be done to lose fats in a specific area.
However, with that being said, it will be more recommended and logical to do compound exercises to work on larger and/or multiple muscles to increase the calories output in a shorter period of time rather than the smaller muscles such as specifically your abdominal muscles, if your goal is to lose body fats, knowing that there is no such thing as Spot Reduction.
